The Signs Of Autumn

I worry needlessly about stuff that don't really matter, but I don't know anybody who don't. I gave myself permission in the past to do stuff that I knowingly ought notta, but who can I turn to for permission when all the other can see in me is themselves?

It's a beautiful fall day outside. I talked to my friend Rainey this morning before he went to work, and he definitely did not wanna go. No blame. But, he's gotta. He doesn't know another way to conduct his affairs, and with the responsibilities he has accepted as duty, he just can't not go to work without penalty.

Granted, I know exactly what I would do and have done, back when I was younger. When it gets to the point that I know that I'm gonna croak soon no matter what is done to stop it, I'll go waltzing matilda again to places unknown and unknowable.

I just now revived my subscription to the Thomas discussion group again. All the same people are writing the same old stuff, and accusing the others of writing the same ol' stuff because they are. The one thing about writing with this group I can absolutely depend on is that nothing I ever write will have the slightest affect on anybody there.

I'm preparing my Mac Mini for sale by erasing the hard drive 35 times. Then I will install the Leopard operating system on it. I upgraded it to Snow Leopard, but since the Mac Mini I have only has a 32-bit CPU and Snow Leopard is specifically designed for 64-bit systems it can't take advantage of the 64-bit software. Apple will keep the 32-bit system upgraded for a long time to come because they've sold too many systems that still use 32-bit chips.

I've been checking on the internet to see what this specific computer is selling for. Around $500. I paid nearly $800 for it, and nearly $900 for the 20" Mac monitor. I may keep the monitor just to keep up with my youngest brother who uses two monitors in his business. He kinda needs two monitors for the spreadsheets and PhotoShop stuff he does, but I don't need two monitors except for bragging rights.

The Mac Mini has served me well. I just wanted to use a 64-bit system. I've read about 64-bit CPUs since the late Eighties. It never worked out. Windows came out with a 64-bit operating system before AMD made their chips 64-bit across the board. Then, Intel followed, but by the time there were consumer level systems available with a Windows system, I had lost my taste for Windows and anything to do with Microsoft because of the security problems.

The fact that Apple has come out with a 64-bit operating system practically guarantees it's success. That must gall the hell outta Bill Gates, but it's his own fault because he refused to dump the legacy system after the World Wide Web came into being like Apple did.

If Woz ran Apple instead of Steve Jobs returning to take it over, it would never have happened, and indeed, Apple would have already gone bankrupt. I don't know anything about Steve Jobs except what's appeared in the public media, but he sure is an interesting model for studying the astrology sign Pisces.

I've known some incredibly intelligent Pisces before. In fact, some of the most intelligent people I've known were Pisces, but that's probably because I'm a double Taurus and usually hit it off well with Pisceans. Something like that has to come in play because most of the Pisces I have known were Pisces were usually shy people. The first thing they look for in a new place they go to are where the exits are located, and they're usually gone before anybody knows it.

I'm in a depressed mood today. I think it's because death is in the air. Not a horrible kind of death, but the kind of death that happens every year about this time. That may be why it's called the Fall season. This sort of death is beautiful though. The leaves turn bright colors before they fall, rot, and get reabsorbed into the tree they fell from. Don't you reckon trees get mad at people who rake up their fallen leaves and haul them off or burn them? It's a little like murder. /;-)
